Are autism and ADHD linked?

Autism and ADHD are separate conditions, but they often occur together. Many children with autism also have ADHD, which can affect attention, impulse control, and activity levels. Both conditions share some overlapping traits—like sensory sensitivity or difficulty with routines—which can sometimes make diagnosis more complex. A child can be diagnosed with both conditions, and therapies can be tailored to support both sets of needs. Recognising both helps create more effective support strategies at home and school.
