Can adults have oppositional defiant disorder?

While ODD is most commonly diagnosed in children and teens, some adults continue to experience symptoms if the condition was not treated in childhood. In adults, ODD may appear as ongoing anger, defiance towards authority figures at work or in relationships, and difficulty managing conflict.

However, many adults are more likely to be diagnosed with related conditions, such as personality disorders or mood disorders, if oppositional behaviours persist. Therapy can still be beneficial for improving coping skills, relationships, and emotional regulation.
