Can autism be genetic?

Yes, autism often has a genetic component. Studies show that autism can run in families and that certain genes may influence the likelihood of a child being on the spectrum. However, genetics alone don’t explain everything—some children with autism have no known family history, and some genetic traits may only increase likelihood rather than guarantee diagnosis. In many cases, it's the interaction between genes and the environment that shapes development.
