Can autism develop later in life?
Autism itself does not develop suddenly later in life, but it may go unrecognised until a child or adult faces more social or academic demands. Some children appear to meet early milestones and then show noticeable differences as they grow older. In adulthood, people may realise they are autistic after years of masking or struggling with certain challenges. In both cases, the traits have always been there—they just become more obvious over time.
