Can dyslexia affect speech?

Dyslexia mainly affects reading and writing, but it can sometimes influence speech and language development. Children with dyslexia may struggle with phonological processing (breaking words into sounds), which can affect how they pronounce or recall words. Some children may also have trouble finding the right word quickly, leading to pauses or substitutions in speech.

However, dyslexia itself is not a speech disorder; it is a language-based learning difficulty. Speech therapy can be helpful alongside literacy interventions to strengthen both spoken and written communication.

If your child is showing both reading and speech difficulties, book a consultation now.
