Can trauma lead to OCD?

Trauma can be a contributing factor in the development or worsening of OCD symptoms. People who have experienced traumatic events may develop intrusive thoughts or compulsive behaviours as a way to manage distress. While trauma does not always cause OCD, it can act as a trigger in those who are already vulnerable due to genetics or personality traits. Trauma-focused therapy may be beneficial alongside standard OCD treatments.
