What is task analysis in behaviour therapy?

Task analysis is a step-by-step breakdown of a complex skill into smaller, manageable parts. In NDIS-funded behaviour therapy, this technique is often used to teach daily living skills—like brushing teeth or packing a school bag. The therapist assesses the child’s ability to complete each step and provides prompts and reinforcement along the way. Over time, prompts are faded as the child becomes more independent. Task analysis is highly effective for children with intellectual disabilities or learning delays and can be easily implemented at home with therapist guidance.
