Who can be a behaviour support practitioner in Australia?

In Australia, a Behaviour Support Practitioner must:

  • Have qualifications in allied health, education, or social work

  • Undergo assessment and approval by the NDIS Commission

  • Meet the Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework (core, proficient, advanced, or specialist level)

  • Undertake ongoing training in PBS, ethics, and safeguarding

NDIS participants should ensure their practitioner is NDIS-approved and experienced in working with children or individuals with complex behaviours.
