How are oppositional defiant disorder and ADHD related?

ODD and ADHD are related in that they often co-exist and share overlapping symptoms, such as impulsivity, frustration, and difficulty following instructions. However, ADHD is primarily a neurodevelopmental condition affecting focus and self-control, while ODD involves persistent defiance and hostile behaviours.

Children with both conditions usually need combined treatment, including behavioural therapy, parent training, and sometimes medication for ADHD symptoms.

Managing both conditions together leads to better outcomes than treating each in isolation.
