How common is childhood apraxia of speech?

CAS is uncommon compared to other speech disorders. It represents a small proportion of children referred for speech therapy. Studies suggest a prevalence of less than 1% of the population, but among children with severe speech disorders, CAS may be more frequently diagnosed.

Because it is rare, many professionals may have limited experience with CAS, making specialised assessment vital.
