How do you test for childhood apraxia of speech?

There is no single test for CAS; instead, diagnosis comes from structured clinical tasks. A speech pathologist may ask your child to:
  • Repeat sounds, words, or phrases multiple times.
  • Try words of increasing complexity.
  • Use imitation tasks with and without visual cues.
The pathologist looks for inconsistent errors, groping, and speech rhythm difficulties. Standardised assessments and clinical expertise are combined to ensure accuracy.
