How does ADHD medication work?

ADHD medications—particularly stimulants—work by increasing levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain. These chemicals play a key role in focus, motivation, and self-regulation.

By enhancing activity in underactive brain areas, medication helps reduce impulsivity, improve attention, and support emotional control.

Non-stimulant medications also work on similar pathways but more gradually. It's important to find the right medication and dose with professional guidance.
