How does dyslexia work?

Dyslexia works by affecting how the brain processes written and spoken language. Instead of smoothly linking letters with sounds, the brain of a person with dyslexia takes longer to decode and interpret words.

This creates challenges with reading fluency, spelling, and sometimes writing speed. It doesn’t mean the child cannot learn; it simply means they need structured teaching methods, like phonics-based instruction and visual supports. With early intervention and the right therapy strategies, children with dyslexia can thrive in school and beyond.
