How does NDIS funding work?

NDIS funding is based on a participant’s individual goals and needs. After an assessment, the NDIA allocates funds into categories such as Core Supports, Capital Supports, and Capacity Building Supports. These categories cover different areas, from daily living to equipment and therapy services.

Participants can use their funding to pay for NDIS-registered providers or, in some cases, unregistered providers if their plan allows. Importantly, the funding is not means-tested; it is determined by functional need rather than income.
