How does OCD relate to autism?

OCD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are separate conditions, but they can occur together. While both may involve repetitive behaviours, their causes and functions differ:
• In OCD, rituals aim to reduce anxiety from intrusive thoughts.
• In ASD, repetitive behaviours may be comforting or linked to sensory needs.
Co-occurrence can make diagnosis more complex and requires a specialised assessment to guide therapy.
