How is Down syndrome treated?

While there is no single “treatment” for Down syndrome, support is tailored to each individual’s needs. Treatment usually involves:
  •  Regular medical care to manage health conditions (e.g., heart, thyroid, hearing, vision).
  • Early intervention programs for motor, communication, and social skills.
  • Therapies such as speech, occupational, physiotherapy, and behavioural support.
  •  Inclusive education and social programs to promote independence.
Each child’s strengths and challenges are different, so treatment plans are personalised.
