How long does global developmental delay last?
The length of time a child experiences Global Developmental Delay varies greatly. For some children, delays are temporary and improve significantly with early and consistent therapy. Others may continue to face developmental challenges throughout life, especially if GDD is linked to a broader diagnosis such as autism or intellectual disability.
How long GDD lasts depends on several factors, including the underlying cause of the delay, whether the child has additional diagnoses, the quality and timing of early intervention, and the child’s individual learning style and environment. Some children no longer meet criteria for GDD by school age, while others continue to need support well into adolescence and adulthood.
