Is childhood apraxia of speech genetic?

CAS can sometimes have a genetic component. Research has identified links between CAS and mutations in specific genes such as FOXP2, which play a role in speech and language development. CAS may also appear as part of genetic syndromes or conditions that affect the brain.

However, not all cases are genetic—many children have CAS without any family history. Genetic testing may be recommended if CAS occurs alongside other developmental or neurological differences.

If you suspect a genetic link in your child’s speech disorder, book a consultation with us for guidance and assessment.
