Is OCD a personality disorder?
OCD is not a personality disorder. It is a mental health condition characterised by obsessions (intrusive thoughts, images, or urges) and compulsions (repetitive behaviours to relieve distress). There is a related but distinct condition called Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD), which involves:
• A rigid need for order and control
• Perfectionism that interferes with flexibility
• No distress about thoughts or behaviours, unlike OCD
Diagnosis is important because OCD and OCPD require different treatment approaches.
