Is Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) in the DSM-5?
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) is not listed as a standalone condition in the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). However, sensory challenges are acknowledged as part of other conditions, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Despite this, many occupational therapists and educators recognise SPD as a distinct set of challenges that can significantly affect a child’s development and daily life.
