How are behaviour support strategies implemented at school?

Behaviour therapists often work closely with schools to ensure your child’s support strategies are applied consistently across both home and classroom settings. Under NDIS-funded support, therapists may observe your child at school (with consent), collaborate with teachers, and provide training on how to implement key parts of the child’s Behaviour Support Plan.

Strategies might include visual schedules, token boards, behaviour cue cards, structured breaks, and reinforcement systems. These tools help reduce behavioural incidents and support classroom participation. For children with complex needs, therapists may also write simplified behaviour guides tailored to the school environment, and monitor progress through regular communication with the teaching team. This collaborative approach improves generalisation and reduces confusion for the child.
