What are cerebral palsy spasms?
Cerebral palsy spasms are sudden, involuntary muscle contractions often linked to spastic CP, the most common type. These spasms occur when muscle tone is abnormally high, making movements stiff, jerky, or painful. Children may experience spasms in the arms, legs, or face, which can interfere with walking, balance, and daily tasks. While spasms themselves are not life-threatening, they can cause discomfort and limit independence if untreated. Management often includes physiotherapy, stretching, medication, and in some cases, medical procedures.
