What are gross motor developmental milestones?
Gross motor developmental milestones are the large movement skills children develop using their arms, legs, and whole body. These include rolling, crawling, standing, walking, running, jumping, and climbing. For example, many babies roll by 4–6 months, crawl by 7–10 months, and walk independently between 12–18 months. As toddlers grow, they begin to run, climb stairs, kick balls, and ride tricycles.
By preschool age, they often hop on one foot, catch a ball, and show better balance and coordination. These milestones support independence, participation in play, and overall health. If a child shows delays in gross motor skills, physiotherapy or exercise physiology can provide structured support.
