What autism stand for?
The term “autism” doesn’t stand for a set of initials—it’s not an acronym. Instead, the word comes from “autos,” the Greek word for “self,” originally used to describe behaviours that seemed inwardly focused. Over time, it has come to represent a wide spectrum of neurological differences that affect how people think, communicate, and interact. While the name has stayed, our understanding of autism has changed dramatically. Today, it stands for much more: uniqueness, diversity, and a different—but equally valid—way of seeing the world.
