What causes autism?

Autism is believed to be caused by a combination of genetic traits and early brain development differences. Some children inherit genes that increase their likelihood of being autistic, while other factors—like complications during pregnancy or birth—may also play a role. It’s important to note that autism has no single cause and it cannot be prevented or cured. It is a naturally occurring variation in how the brain functions. Families should focus on understanding their child’s strengths and support needs, rather than searching for a single cause.
