What conditions are covered by the NDIS?

The NDIS does not have a single list of “covered conditions” but instead looks at the impact of a condition on daily life. However, conditions that are typically supported include:

  • Intellectual disability
  • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Down syndrome
  • Global developmental delay (for children under 6)
  • Psychosocial disability (mental health conditions that are severe and ongoing)
The NDIA assesses whether a condition is permanent and significantly affects functional capacity in areas like communication, social interaction, learning, mobility, and self-care.
