What does OCD mean?

OCD stands for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, a recognised mental health condition where a person experiences persistent obsessions (unwanted thoughts, images, or urges) and feels compelled to perform compulsions (repetitive behaviours or mental acts) to reduce distress. It is not the same as being “neat” or “perfectionist” — OCD can cause significant anxiety and disruption in daily life. It can affect children, teens, and adults, and may be eligible for NDIS support if it impacts functional capacity. Treatment may involve Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and/or medication.
