What does physiology mean for kids?

Physiology means learning how your body works on the inside—how your heart beats, how your lungs breathe, how your muscles move, and how your brain helps control everything. For kids, it’s a way to understand why their body feels a certain way when they run fast, climb a ladder, or even when they feel tired or excited. It helps children connect their actions (like playing or exercising) with what’s happening inside their body, such as a faster heartbeat or heavy breathing.

In NDIS-funded programs, this understanding becomes especially useful when a child has developmental delays, disability, or other needs that affect how their body functions. Accredited Exercise Physiologists use their knowledge of physiology to build fun, safe, and supportive exercise plans that match each child's abilities. This might include exercises to improve strength, balance, posture, or stamina—all while helping the child learn what their body can do and how it can grow stronger over time.
