What is a developmental milestones checklist?

A developmental milestones checklist is a tool for parents and health professionals to track a child’s progress at different ages. In NSW, this is included in the Blue Book (Personal Health Record), which covers checks from birth to school age. The Raising Children Network also provides online milestone checklists that align with Australian guidelines.

These checklists ask simple questions, such as whether a baby waves bye-bye by 12 months or climbs stairs by 2 years. They are not diagnostic but support early identification of delays, with the NDIS ECEI pathway offering intervention if needed.
