What is anatomy and physiology for kids?

Anatomy and physiology are two big words that help kids learn about how their body works. Anatomy is the study of body parts—like your bones, muscles, heart, lungs, and brain. Physiology is about how those parts do their jobs. For example, your heart pumps blood, your lungs bring in air, and your muscles help you move. When children understand anatomy and physiology together, they start to recognise how all their body parts work as a team to help them play, learn, and grow.

This knowledge is especially useful in NDIS-funded therapies. Accredited Exercise Physiologists often explain these concepts in a playful and age-appropriate way to help children better understand their movement goals. When kids understand their bodies, they’re more likely to feel confident and willing to try new physical challenges. For example, a child with low muscle tone might be shown how their muscles work and why certain exercises help them sit taller, balance better, or move more easily.
