What is bipolar disorder in teens?

Bipolar disorder in teenagers can present differently than in adults. Teens may show rapid mood swings, irritability, risk-taking, and sudden changes in school performance. Manic episodes may appear as agitation rather than euphoria, and depressive episodes may involve withdrawal or self-harm risk.

Because adolescence is already a time of emotional change, symptoms can be harder to recognise. Early intervention with therapy and medical support is key to reducing long-term impact.
