What is dyspraxia?

Dyspraxia, also known in Australia as Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD), is a neurological condition that affects a person’s ability to plan, organise, and carry out coordinated movements. It is not related to intelligence but rather to how the brain processes and sends messages to the body. Children with dyspraxia may struggle with tasks like tying shoelaces, handwriting, using cutlery, or riding a bike.

It can also impact speech, social skills, and emotional regulation. Early intervention, including occupational therapy, speech therapy, and tailored educational support, can help children develop practical skills and independence over time.
