What is oppositional defiant disorder in preschool children?
In preschool children (ages 3–5), ODD often shows up as frequent temper tantrums, refusal to follow directions, and aggression towards parents or peers. While defiance is common in toddlers, ODD behaviours are more intense, occur across multiple settings, and last for at least 6 months. These children may struggle with transitions, resist routines, and show ongoing hostility towards authority figures. Early recognition is crucial, as preschool years are the best time for intervention.
