What is the clinical definition of OCD?

Clinically, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is defined in the DSM-5 as the presence of obsessions, compulsions, or both, that are:
Time-consuming (taking more than 1 hour per day)
• Cause significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning
• Not attributable to substance use, medication, or another medical condition
Obsessions are intrusive, unwanted thoughts, urges, or images, and compulsions are repetitive behaviours or mental acts performed to reduce distress.
