What is the difference between childhood apraxia of speech and autism?

CAS and autism are separate conditions but can co-occur.

  • CAS: A motor speech disorder affecting how the brain plans speech movements.
  • Autism: A developmental condition affecting social communication, behaviour, and sensory processing.

Children with autism may also have CAS, making communication challenges more complex. The two require different but coordinated supports.
