What is the oppositional defiant disorder test?

There is no single “test” for ODD. Instead, professionals use a combination of:
  • Structured interviews with parents and teachers.
  • Standardised behaviour rating scales, such as the Conners Rating Scale or Child Behavior Checklist.
  • Observation of behaviours across different settings.
  • DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for confirmation.
These assessments ensure that the child’s behaviours are not due to other conditions like ADHD, anxiety, or learning disorders, which often co-occur with ODD.
