What is the risk of Down syndrome at age 30?

The likelihood of having a baby with Down syndrome increases with maternal age. At age 30, the risk is about 1 in 940. By comparison, the risk at age 25 is about 1 in 1,250, and by age 35 it rises to about 1 in 350.

While the risk increases as mothers get older, most babies with Down syndrome are actually born to women under 35, simply because younger women have more babies overall.
