What qualifications do you need to be an exercise physiologist in Australia?

In Australia, you need a degree in Exercise Physiology or Clinical Exercise Physiology that’s accredited by ESSA. Without ESSA accreditation, you cannot practise as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist under Medicare or NDIS.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s in Exercise Physiology (ESSA-accredited)

  • Minimum 500 hours of clinical placement

  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications

  • Ongoing professional development to maintain ESSA registration

These qualifications are essential to deliver NDIS-funded services safely and effectively.
