What therapies are used for developmental language disorder?

Several therapies are used to support children and adults with DLD, depending on their individual needs. These include:

  • Speech and language therapy (primary treatment).
  • Literacy interventions to strengthen reading and spelling.
  • Social communication therapy to build confidence in conversations.
  • Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) such as visuals or speech devices for severe cases.
  • Parent and teacher training programs to provide consistent strategies across environments.
Therapy may be provided in clinics, schools, or through NDIS-funded community services.
