What types of dyslexia are there?

Dyslexia can be classified into different types based on the area of processing difficulty:
  1. Phonological Dyslexia – trouble breaking words into sounds.
  2. Surface Dyslexia – difficulty recognising whole words by sight.
  3. Rapid Naming Deficit – struggles with quickly naming objects, colours, or letters.
  4. Double Deficit Dyslexia – a combination of phonological and rapid naming challenges.
Each type affects children differently, and professional assessments help identify which interventions are most effective. In Australia, support can be provided in schools and through NDIS therapy services when needed.
