What’s developmental milestones EYLF?
Developmental milestones in the EYLF (Early Years Learning Framework) refer to the key skills and behaviours that children are expected to achieve from birth to 5 years, linked directly to learning outcomes in early education settings. The EYLF is Australia’s national framework for early childhood learning, guiding educators and carers in supporting children’s growth. Milestones under the EYLF include:
- Identity: children develop a strong sense of self and belonging.
- Wellbeing: growing independence in physical and emotional health.
- Learning: curiosity, problem-solving, and early literacy and numeracy.
- Communication: using words, gestures, and creativity to express themselves.
- Community: forming relationships, showing respect, and engaging with others.
Educators use these milestones to assess readiness for school and ensure children are supported across all domains of development. Families are encouraged to view milestones as guides, not rigid expectations, with support available through early learning programs and the NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) pathway if delays are identified.
