When is dysgraphia diagnosed?
Dysgraphia is often diagnosed in primary school, when handwriting and written expression skills are expected to develop rapidly. Difficulties usually become clear between Years 2–4, as children are asked to write longer, more organised work. However, some individuals are not diagnosed until high school or adulthood, particularly if they develop coping strategies or if their struggles were overlooked earlier.
Early identification leads to better academic outcomes, reduced frustration, and timely access to supports such as NDIS-funded therapies.
