When was ADHD discovered?
ADHD has been described in medical literature for over a century. In 1902, British physician Sir George Still reported children who had significant behavioural control difficulties, which many now view as early documentation of ADHD. Over the decades, ADHD has been known by several names including “minimal brain dysfunction” and “ADD” (Attention Deficit Disorder). The official term Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder was introduced in the DSM-III-R in 1987. Since then, research into the neurological basis, treatment, and long-term impact of ADHD has advanced significantly.Curious about how ADHD has evolved over time? Our clinicians are here to explain.
