Which type of cerebral palsy is most common?

The most common type of cerebral palsy is spastic cerebral palsy, which accounts for about 70–80% of all cases in Australia. Spastic CP is caused by damage to the motor cortex of the brain and leads to increased muscle tone, stiffness, and difficulty with movement. It can affect one side of the body (hemiplegia), both legs (diplegia), or the entire body (quadriplegia). Children with spastic CP may find walking, posture, and coordination more challenging, but tailored therapies can improve mobility and independence.
