Will the NDIS pay for a psychiatrist?

The NDIS generally does not fund medical or clinical services that fall under the health system, such as psychiatrists. However, the NDIS may fund psychosocial disability supports related to mental health if they are linked to functional impairment, such as:
  • Counselling
  • Behavioural support
  • Daily living supports
Psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and treatments remain the responsibility of Medicare and state health systems.
